1. Definition and function

Regulating Transformers (voltage regulating transformers) are a kind of power equipment that can dynamically adjust the output voltage under load. They are different from the fixed variable ratio of ordinary transformers. It realizes continuous or hierarchical voltage adjustment by changing the tap position of the internal winding.

2. Core principle

Based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, the different taps of the high-voltage windings are switched through the on-load tap switch (OLTC) to change the number of turns on the first and second sides to offset the voltage deviation caused by power grid fluctuations or load changes, and maintain the output voltage stability.

3. Main types

Including outdoor oil-immersed type (for power systems), indoor dry type (for places with high safety requirements) and laboratory low-power auto-coupling type, all with the core goal of achieving "controllable voltage regulation".

Outdoor scenes (such as agricultural networks, mines, and long-distance transmission lines)

Suitable for oil-immersed regulating transformers, which need to withstand ambient temperature -25℃~+40℃, altitude ≤1000m, and have rain, dust, and lightning resistance capabilities.

Indoor special places (such as subways, chemical plants, and high-rise buildings)

Dry-type voltage-regulating transformers are selected, which require a dry environment, no corrosive gases, good ventilation (to ensure that the temperature rise is ≤100K), and away from flammable and explosive sources.

Laboratory/small equipment matching

Low-power voltage regulators need to be used on a dry, dust-free work surface to avoid moisture or vibration. The input voltage is usually 220V/380V, and the output adjustment range is wide (such as 0~250V).
